El Bimonio de Oro
El Binomio de Oro de América, commonly known as El Binomio, is a legendary Colombian vallenato music group founded in 1976 by Israel Romero and Rafael Orozco in Barranquilla. The name Binomio refers to the duo’s original two-member formation, while de Oro stands for the Romero Orozco Organization, reflecting the group’s foundational roots.
Israel Romero, who remains the lead vocalist, became the face of the group following the tragic death of Rafael Orozco in 1992. Under Israel’s leadership since 1993, El Binomio de Oro has thrived, becoming a beacon of vallenato music in Colombia and internationally. Known for their distinctive "romanza vallenata" style, the group has exported the genre to audiences across America and Europe, performing in numerous prestigious venues and festivals worldwide.
El Binomio de Oro is often referred to as La Universidad del Vallenato ("The Vallenato University") because it has served as a launching pad for many renowned artists. The group has helped shape the careers of singers like Juan Piña, Gabriel "Gaby" García, Richard Salcedo, Jean Carlos Centeno, Jorge Celedón, and Júnior Santiago, as well as iconic accordionists such as José Fernando "Morre" Romero and Carlos Humberto López.
Throughout their career, the group has earned significant recognition, including three Latin Grammy nominations in the Cumbia/Vallenato category. They have won the prestigious Congo de Oro award seven times at the Festival de Orquestas y Acordeones in Barranquilla and the Premio Orquídea at the Festival Internacional de la Orquídea in Venezuela. Their contribution to the vallenato genre has solidified their status as a cultural institution in Colombia, closely linked to the Festival Cuna de Acordeones in Villanueva, La Guajira.
Israel Romero, as the enduring voice and leader of El Binomio de Oro, continues to carry the legacy of this iconic group, ensuring that their music and influence remain integral to the rich tradition of Vallenato music.
Alex Manga
Alex Manga (born Alexander Manga García on November 8, 1976, in Bosconia, Cesar, Colombia) is one of the most respected voices in the world of vallenato and tropical music. Growing up in a musical family, he was surrounded by the sounds of vallenato from an early age, as his father, José Manga, and his uncles would often gather for parranda sessions. This early exposure ignited Alex's passion for singing, and he began performing at a young age, accompanying his family in local music gatherings.
Alex’s musical journey started with his percussion skills, and after moving to Bogotá with his family, he joined the group Dinastía Vallenata, where he began as a percussionist. His versatility soon caught the attention of various renowned groups, and he eventually became a key member of Los Príncipes and Arco Iris as a vocalist and performer. His experience as a backing vocalist for major artists like Silvio Brito, Miguel Herrera, and Alfredo Gutiérrez further honed his craft, leading him to become the lead singer for Los Diablitos in 1995.
With Los Diablitos, Alex Manga reached the peak of his career, driving the group's success with hit albums such as “10 años de historia,” “Lenguaje universal,” and “Corazón de ángel.” His powerful voice became synonymous with the romantic vallenato genre, and his songs, including “Tú vas a volar,” “No voy a llorar,” and “Paola,” became anthems of Latin music. Over the years, the group sold over 300,000 copies of their albums, solidifying their place in the hearts of fans worldwide.
After 15 successful years with Los Diablitos, Alex Manga embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album “Un canto para el corazón” in 2009. His single "Le gané al orgullo" quickly resonated with audiences, marking the beginning of his successful journey as a solo artist. In 2015, Alex released his second solo album “Ayer y hoy,” which featured hits like “Serás recordación” and “La víctima del cuento.” He continued to build on his success with his 2018 album “Seguimos bendecidos,” featuring popular tracks such as “Quisiera” and “Sigo bendecido.”
