This show will take place in our intimate UpStage area.
The concept of BWA was formed in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1996 when Nick Sproviero and Matt Terenzio (aka Johnny Rocco) began collaborating on a set of songs written by Rocco.
Some of these tracks caught the attention of local bands, with Rocco often stepping in as a guest vocalist. After “getting the boot” from one prominent group, Rocco joined forces with renowned local musician Anthony “Quinn” Carpanzano and drummer Matt Karpowich. The addition of Sproviero and bassist Will Vallar solidified the original BWA lineup.
By the Y2K era, BWA became a mainstay in the local bar scene, crafting a garage rock sound, both unique and familiar, blending grunge, hip hop, folk and blues. The band headlined shows at Toad’s Place and performed at the legendary CBGB. The departure of original drummer Karpowich in 2001 triggered a period of experimentation, resulting in raw, loose and unrehearsed shows dabbled with moments of clarity and inspired creativity.
Amid tensions within the band, Sproviero launched his own project, The Jaws, which was named Fairfield County Weekly’s "Best Country Band." His involvement with BWA became sporadic as he shifted focus to solo ventures. Since that time, nearly 20 local musicians from a wide variety of acts have been members of BWA. The current lineup includes Rocco, Quinn, Timmy Lyons, and Wade McManus.
This Thanksgiving marks BWA’s 25th anniversary. As one of Stamford’s oldest original rock bands, the celebration will include "all the fixins".

Soft Spot
A trio of space crusading gentlemen on a journey to find the saddest songs amongst the stars.
The Nuclear Heartbreak
The power trio The Nuclear Heartbreak, based out of Connecticut, is the high caliber product of guitarist and singer James Darling, drummer Gio Gomez and bassist Tim Robbins. The Nuclear Heartbreak released their self-titled debut album in August 2019.
The bands live shows are hailed as an “electric, crowd pleasing, party atmosphere,” riddled with songs that are “full bore sing-a-longs, the kind of singalongs you would grab a stranger to and together join in a triumphant chanting of the defiant lyrics.” The band is dripping with undertones of garage rock, folk, blues, and punk. The perfect combination to mesmerize the boisterous energy of any audience. The only way one could come close to describing The Nuclear Heartbreak's unique and dynamic sound would be if Weezer were to have a love child with the Alabama Shakes and that child was bottle fed “Reinventing Axl Rose” by Against Me!
Their sophomore album, "Misguided Youth" released on October 30, 2020. Their hit single “Hard Times” was featured on several radio stations including the notorious WFUV in NYC. Their most recent single “Right Now” released in June 2024 and premiered on 95.9 The Fox!
