Ballet School of Stamford presents:
Hansel & Gretel
Many of us grew up with fantastic fairy tales written by the Grimm brothers. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm traveled around Germany listening to and recording the folk tales that were handed down orally from parents and grandparents to their children. They first recorded Hansel and Gretel in 1810 and published it in 1812. They revised it seven times and printed their final version in 1857.
Our family friendly production is set to the music of Engelbert Humperdink who composed the opera in 1891 and 1892. We are delighted to be accompanied by live musicians and opera singers who help tell the story. The original was in German, but the ballet you will see will be sung in English. Humperdink's version of the story is a little different than the Grimm brothers' original version.
